Cavan, the bridegroom called at a house of an acquaintance, and asked one of the girls to go with him to pass off as the bride. It was in the summer time. The people were out working in the fields. They gave them a healthy cheer as they passed by. There was a large party in the house (with Pat Hand, the fiddler, who lived at Corlea, Kingscourt, Co. Cavan), waiting for the dance, which was kept on till daylight next morning. The girl of course returned home in the morning and everyone enjoyed themselves. It was afterwards referred to as the "Wedding without a Bride."
