  2. A Legend of Lough Sillan, near Shercock

    Long centuries ago it is said that a former town existed at Shercock. It was situated on a beautiful site to the north west of the present town. In the middle of the town was an enchanted well surrounded by a granite wall and protected by a stone door. A warning was inscribed over the door not to leave the door unshut after drawing water from the well, or evil consequences might follow.
    It so happened that one day a maiden came to draw water from the well and being in a hurry she forgot to close the door. She had
