- (1) The Cows and Calves. The cow, the horse, the donkey, the goat, the cat and the dog are domestic animals. The cows have no names. When we are driving the cows in or out of the field we say Howey! We have names on our calves. They are "Standy" and Jerry. The cow house is made from stones and mortar. There is ventilation at the top of the house. The floor is made from cement. It is called a byre. The cows are tied with chains to stakes. The cows are tied by the neck when they are in the house. If they break into other fields they are tied by the legs. Some of the tyings are made from steel and some from iron.
