- Sixty years ago the farmers in this part of the country used to bleed the young cattle in the months of April or May. The blood was kept in a vessel until it got thick. It was then boiled in a pot. When sufficiently boiled it was taken out and it was a thick solid mass of a dark brown colour. It was cut up into small pieces and put into a pan of bacon gravy. It was eaten along with potatoes at dinner.
- Another article of food that used to be taken in this country was 'Beestings'. The milk given by the cow during two or three days after calving was boiled. When boiled it curdled and the people ate this curdled milk.
This milk was also used for making bread and it was considered a treat to get a piece of Beesting 'Pan-cake'
