- People gather shamrocks the days before St. Patrick's day and send them away to any friends they have in other countries, for shamrocks do not grow in foreign countries. Then when St. Patrick's day comes, they wear them in their coats to mass in honour of St. Patrick.
On the first day of Lent people go to the Chapel, and the priest puts blessed ashes on their foreheads and while he is doing so, he says in Latin "remember man, thou are dust, and unto dust thou shalt return." The first night of November is called Hallow-een, and on that night pan-cakes are made and eaten with tea. The day after Christmas day is called St. Stephen's day.
