The cuckoo never makes a nest of her own, but lays one egg in some other bird's nest. This egg is very small for the size of the bird. The colour is for the most part mottled reddish grey, but often varies a little from this. The weather can be judged by the behaviour of certain birds. When the swallows fly high that is a sign of good weather, but when they fly low that is a sign of bad weather. When a flock of crows fly home, high in the air, that is a sign of good weather. But when they fly up in the air, and then drop down as if they were shot, that is a sign of bad weather.
