- Leipreachans are known locally as "fairies" or "good people".
The leipreachan is said to be about one foot in height and dressed in very bright clothes. Long ago the district was said to be swarmed with fairies but many locals say that all the fairies have vanished since the Angelus bell began to ring throughout the locality. The fairies are said to have lived in "forts" or "lios's". Many of these forts are still to be seen the principal in my district being Connells Fort in the townland of Knocknashammer. Cassely's Fort in Carrickacromin Leeche's and Brsdy's Forts in Ardmone and another in the townland of Turfad called "Cruagh na liosa". No matter how low or level these forts are situated it is possible to see another fort from them.
The fairy's occupation is principally making boots. The fairies were very jolly and always in good humour and mostly put in their nights singing and dancing. Like everyone the fairies have their rulers and masters. These rulers were mostly dressed elaborately in jewels, silk and diamonds of all description.
