- The houses long ago were all thatched. The thatch was made of straw which was grown in the district. In the old houses people used to keep a bed in the kitchen called a settle bed and the children used to sleep in it. They used to fold it up and use it as a seat in the kitchen during the day. There are some settle-beds to be seen in the houses yet.
The fire was not always at the gable wall of the house. The chimney was made of mortar and stone. Some of the old houses had a fire in the centre of the house on the floor and there was a(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
