In the country districts the custom of having an all-night wedding party still survives. To this party all relations, friends and neighbors are invited. The number of guests ranges from forty to a hundred and sometimes more. They have feasting, singing, and dancing all night.
During the night boys of the district dress up in straw and go to the wedding. They wear pointed hats, straw skirts and straw coats. They sing and dance outside the door until they are brought in. They stay about an hour and they dance. If they get money they burn the straw outside the door an if they do not get money they go away shouting and pretending to be crying.
Some get married in Dublin. Those are do not go away on a honeymoon generally go for a long drive in cars with their friends for the day. A wedding procession or a hauling-home is not held now.
