- a) The village of Scotshouse took its name from Billy Scott a yeoman who sold resin by the lb. He lived in a hovel which was situated opposite the present post office. Young people were sent to Scott's for resin and when asked where they were going they used to answer "To Scott's house". Soon the name Scott's house was given to the group of houses situated nearby and which gave rise to the village of Scotshouse.
Scotshouse was a terrible place with yeomen long ago and there were many Protestants in the district. The Crowes lived in Crowfort and the first of them was a steward to Sam Madden after he first bought Hilton. One of the Crowes long ago had twenty one sons and a daughter but when the ould people said that he had twenty one sons and each son a sister ye'd be inclined to think that he had forty two children, but he hadn't he had only twenty two.
The twenty one sons once rode on twenty one white horses to Clones and they were never seen together afterwards. Crowes lived where Mrs Fitzpatrick has now her house and another Crowe where Mickey Connolly(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
