- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)but there are not too many who get them made. There is only one shoemaker in this district who is called Patrick McKenna and he does not make them any more. This is not a tradition in his family. He learned his trade in Aughnacloy. My grandfather said that long ago there was a shoemaker for every four townlands or so.
Most of the people now buy their shoes from the shops who get them from the factories. Clogs were made and worn in this district. When an "alder tree" was cut down the wood was sawed and made into soles for clogs. The uppers were cut off a shoe and these were nailed to the alder sole. Iron tips for soles & heels were bought in the town.- Bailitheoir
