- Storms
About twenty years ago there was a snow storm on the first of April. The morning was fine but about mid-day snow began to fall and a strong wind blew which gathered the snow into heaps. It continued all day so the cattle out in the fields were in danger. Two men of the Vaughans from Kilbane who went out to look after their cattle got lost in the snow. Next day both men were found dead in the snow.
The wind was rising and brought rain in great showers with it. In several places trees were uprooted while the low-lands were being flooded owing to the breaking of the river’s banks. Cattle and horses were drowned in places where there were swamps or drains. Many slates were blown off the roofs of old houses.
