- Wexford town was called by Ptolemy, Menapia, but in the Annals of the Four Masters the place-name is Loch Garman, so called from "Garman the Rough," who was drowned there.
It was called by the Danes *Weisfiord.
It is a wealthy, old-fashioned town, running for over a mile parallel with the shore it's narrow Main Street, it's old-world Bull Ring, recalling the savage games introduced by the Anglo-Normans, it's quaint houses, fine old castles and ruins, and splendid new churches, suggesting at every step some memory of the eventful history of the place from the early Fair of(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
