    Saint Ita is the patron Saint of Faithlegg, a town's-land in the Parish of Killea and Dunmore, in the Barony of Gaultir in County Waterford. She was sometimes called the Brigid of Munster. Her name at first was Deirdre but she took the name Ita to show the hunger which she had for the love of God. In a wood opposite Faithlegg chapel there is a holy well called Saint Ita's Well. It is about two hundred yards from the chapel.
    One day Saint Ita was praying in the wood along side the well when a child appeared to her. It was the Child Jesus. After a few moments He dissapeared, and when Saint Ita went to the place where the Child had been standing she discovered His foot-print in the rock. The mark
  2. Turncoat Mick in the Morning

    CBÉS 1015

    Leathanach 271

    I
    You sons of brave, your attention I crave
    A few moments to hear my oration,
    For I do intend, O those few lines to pen,
    Concerning this New Reformation.
    It has taken place in our County
    Surely the truth I relate
    Without telling a lie, giving you in detail
    Of this Protestant boy, whose anointed forbears.
    Were true sons of Grania, and always supported the cause of Hibernia.
    But his faith he denied,
    Oh for that old Brittania
    He's turn coat Mick in the morning.
    II
    In Killea Church, his faith he denied.

  4. On Carden's Wild Domain

    CBÉS 0547

    Leathanach 025

    And echo all the woods around,
    On Carden's Wild Domain.
    4
    How grand to roam the shady walks,
    Those flowery dells and water;
    To ramble through those grand old woods;
    To tell some happy tales,
    In bowers green where lovers meet,
    Free form all grief and pain,
    Where nature decks the verdant plains
    Of Carden's Wild Domain.
    5
    It grieves me sore to see this land,
    Oppressed by tyrant laws,
    To strike a blow for this fair land
    Would be in righteous cause,
    To see our sons and daughters fair,
    Compelled to cross the main,
    And leaving such a land behind
    As Carden's Wild Domain.
    6
    So rise you men around Barnane,
    And hasten to the fray,
    And join that noble general,
    McSweeney from Killea,
    Led on by this brave mountaineer
    Their lands we will regain;
