   In former times when the country had to be more self-contained than at present because of defective means of transport and other reasons every parish maintained nearly all the crafts necessary for the supply of the ordinary needs of it's community. The wool or the home-made woolen clothes universally worn was produced locally. It was washed, greased, carded and spun in the houses of the people. Then the large balls of thread into which it was wound were sent to the local weaver, who, in more recent times at any rate resided in the town.
   The last weaver in this district plied his trade in what is now known as Ardan Street. He was a man named Deacy and he worked at his trade down to almost thirty years ago. By that time however his trade was almost altogether confined to the making of blankets. The home made blanket was much preferred to the imported article both for it's comfort and durability though it lacked the finish of the latter. Within the
