- One time there lived a man named Paddy Button. He had a very great opinion of himself as he could read and write what few other men of his time could do. His wife was an ignorant woman and Paddy thought she was not good enough for him.
One day he was out digging and he found a peculiar stone. It looked like a valuable one so he consulted a neighbour. They both agreed that it was valuable. Soon all the neighbours gathered to see it. They all said it was very valuable and suggested that he should send it away somewhere. One of them said it might make a gentleman of him. Paddy thought a while and said he, "It might make a gentleman of me but sure it would never make a lady of Gráinne"
