    Long ago there was a hedge schoolmaster in Creggs. At playtime every day he used to make hares and hounds of the boys. This day a lad named Murphy wanted to get revenge on another boy. The master made a hound of Murphy and a hare of the other boy.
    They started the race and it was not long after that till Murphy caught. He caught the lad and flung him into the pond that was near the school. The master was in a terrible way. He swam into the pond and pulled him out. He dried the lad's clothes and sent him home. When he went home his parents thought that he was very sick. He was asked what happened to him and he said that he was hurt at play-time. He was sent to school the next day. His father went down to the school to see what the children used to play at play-time.
