- People believed in olden times that if it rained heavily before New Year’s day and that if the floods were high provision would be very expensive that year, no man ever thought of giving out money or anything else on “New Year’s day” for if he did so, he believed his luck was gone with it for the year. Then again people always liked a dark man to come to visit their house on “New Year’s morning”. They believed he carried luck to them for the year no one had any welcome for a lady visitor first person on New Year’s morning.
