- Churning
Churning is done in our house because it is a farmer's house and we keep cows.
We have a heavy oak churn at home which is two feet and a half wide at the top, and three feet wide at the bottom, and four feet high. It cost four pounds a long time ago.
It is made of two sets of staves, the shorter ones near the top, and longer ones coming from the bottom and meeting the shorter ones at the top, the two sets are bound together with five iron (staves) hoops. This churn is made to hold eight gallons.
We churn the milk twice a week in Summer and once a week in Winter.
