  1. Long ago there lived in a cottage a poor widow and her only daughter. The daughter was very delicate when she was young so her mother never asked her to do any work. She grew up a very fine strong girl but she was useless. The mother was breaking her heart working but the daughter never did anything until one day the mother lost all patience with her and she gave her a good beating. The daughter thought she would die because she never before got a slap and so she cried and screeched at the top of her voice. Just at that time the King's son was
