  1. Potatoes are grown on our farm. About two acres is under potatoes each year. Some years the amount varies.
My father prepares the ground. The ground is not manured in any way before being turned up. The potatoes are sown in drills. The drills are made with a plough. Wooden ploughs were used long ago but they are not used now. Spades are not made locally they are bought in the shops.
The local people help one another in sowing the potatoes, During the Summer months great care has to be given to the growing crop, They are dug with spades and potatoe-diggers. Men and children gather the potatoes from the earth. The good ones and the bad ones are seperated. The good ones are put in pits on the field for sometime, after which they are removed for storage for Winter. The bad ones are brought home and given to the pigs and fowl. The types of potatoes that are grown on the land are ; Aranchiefs, Flounders, Aranbanners, Kerrpinks, Aranvictors and Shamrocks.
