- Finn Mac Cool was a great giant. One blow of his sword would kill hundreds of men. The sword he used was nearly half a mile long. He was testing the edge of it one day for he wanted to fight some other big giant in the South of Ireland. There was a nice slender top on the hill of Lisanard and what did he do. He ran at it and cut it off with one blow and that is the reason why it has no top now.
Note. The hill of Lisanard is near Moate. The story was told by an old man named Adamson, who resides in the town to a little boy. Hugh Cunningham, Low Street, Ballymore- Bailitheoir
