    Long ago when a person died the local carpenter made his coffin. The carpenter never charged for making the coffin. At the "wake" no drink was served but instead each man was given a clay pipe full of tobacco. When the corpse was about to be taken to the chapel a white linen sheet was taken and knotted at the four corners. On this the coffin was laid and four friends of the dead person caught hold of the four ends of the sheet and in this way carried it to the graveyard. If they grew tired four more men relieved them. When the corpse was buried the four knots were untied and the four corners were washed in some nearby pool.
