  1. Once upon a time there was a farmer who had a rich daughter. The daughter was in love with a boy. Every night when the farmer went visiting, the boy came to the girl's house, One night the boy brought a bottle of whiskey with him, the girl had a roast goose and a sweet cake ready for him. Just when they were ready to sit down and eat a beggar named "Condy Dubh" came in and asked for the night's lodging, but they put him out again. He remained looking in the window. They had a glass each also a piece out of the cake, and a leg off the goose. When the father came in the boy went under the straw, the girl put the bottle of whiskey up the chimney, the cake into the press and the goose under a creel, "Condy Dubh" came in again and asked for the night's lodging. The farmer said "I will if you tell me the truth." The beggar told the farmer to put his hand up the chimney and he would get the bottle
