- Old Houses
In the olden times houses were very badly made. Some were made of mud and clay, and others were made of mortar and stones. In those days, houses were roofed with heather and bog sods, and others were thatched with wheaten straw. Those roofs were very good. In those old houses there was always a bed in the kitchen. It was called a pouch bed, and it was placed in one corner of the house. The fire was at the gable wall and the front of the chimney was made of mud and clay.
In the olden times there was no glass in the windows, but instead, a piece of cloth was stuffed in for a window. In some old houses, there were no chimneys, only a hole in the roof for the smoke(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Faisnéiseoir
