    There was an ould fellow living in Shanoule...

    There was a man wan time and he was a devil for going on the booze. The wife didn't know what she'd do with him to get him off it. She was tormented with him.
    In the end she allowed she'd go out this night and frighten him. She got a big white sheet and put it on her and stood near an ould style where he'd have to pass.
    'Twasn't very long til the husband came along staggering and he stavo [?] to the world. She stood off on the style with teh sheet on her. The lad stood back: "Who bedamned are you?" says he.
    "I'm the devil" says she.
    "Well, I'm pleased to meet you" says the lad, "I'm married to your sister."
    There was an ould fellow living in Shanoule by the name of Matty Cullen, and he was very nervous about himself. He took a dose of salts this morning anyway to loosen him and it didn't act at all. He was telling me that night how he took a half
