  1. He is supposed to have spent some time in Killala. An avenue made of shingle leads from his castle, about a mile in length to Meelick lake. He is supposed to have used this avenue and up to the present day it is called "Bishop Kirwan's Avenue". There is nothing further remembered of Bishop Kirwan in Killala.
