- (continued from previous page)put a pookeen on her. That is a piece of a boy fixed on her horns and hanging down over her eyes. Sometimes her horns are tied to one foreleg by means of a soft rope while her head is bent down. This is called a Cro-nasc.
When we are driving the cows we say "heow". When calling them we say "huv". We always sprinkle the cows and the cowhouse with holy water on May Eve.
When a calf is born we sprinkle the salt over him and then the cow licks him.
If we were calling the calves we say "suck, suck". When we are calling the pigs we say "bock, bock". Some people say "hursh". When we are calling the fowl we say "tuk, tuk" to the hens, "feenick" to the ducks, "bia, bia" to the turkeys.
When putting down a clutch of eggs you should not forget to put an old horseshoe under the straw in the nest.
