  1. 1. The old houses long ago were built with clay and stone and thatched with straw.
    2. The straw was procured from the wheat which was grown on the land.
    3. The old houses had a bed along by the back wall in the kitchen.
    4. These beds were called “bow-beds”
    5. The fire in the kitchen was always against the gable wall.
    6. The front of the chimney was made of clay and wattles.
    7. Some of the old people remember houses having no chimney but a hole in the roof and the fireplace in the middle of the floor.
    8. The old floors were made of clay.
    9. The half- doors were common formely but not now.
    10. Turf was used for the fire in olden times.
    11. The old methods employed for giving light was a tallow candle commonly known as a dip in the neck of a bottle.
    12. The candles were made locally because every house had their own models for making them
