There is a field about two hundred yards from Ballyshannon. It is said that there was a man hanged in this field. Once there was a man who had a lovely white horse. He was a soldier and he was coming home from some place. He got mad with his horse and he hung himself on the nearest tree. The blood is to be seen yet on the tree and it is said that every night about twelve o’clock the man is to be seen riding on his white horse. The name of the tree is said to be called “The Hangman’s Tree”.
