  1. At about the time of the Derryveigh Evictions there was born in Gartan the Mc Monagle giant.
    He was a youngster of quite frightening strength. When a laddie, one day before dinner a cart too heavily laden with bog fir stuck in the bog. They sent for all the neighbours to get it out.
    The young giant quietly stole out of the house and lifted it out with one hand
    The family were alarmed at his strength. They went to the Bishop (the late Cardinal O Donnell) "to stop his growth"
