    Smut Sunday is the first Sunday in Lent. It is so called because it is supposed that all the boys and girls who did not get married before Lent have a great smut or sulky face on them.
    On St. Brigid's Eve if there is a Brigid in the house she goes out and gathers a bundle of rushes. Then
