When the golden sun was setting far behind the ocean blue,
The silvery moon was rising
O'er the hills of glistening hue,
I often dream of Erin,
And my friends now far away.
And the bonny purple heather
Near the banks of Mulroy Bay.

Oh that little old thatched cottage,
With its door so neat and small,
As it nestled in the valley,
Mids't the hills of Donegal,
Of the day he sailed from Erin
And that morning dark and grey,
When I bade farewell to Mary,
On the banks of Mulroy Bay.
