the island off Skerries. St Patrick was in the habit of visiting the mainland each day to teach the people the true Faith. One morning when he was crossing to the mainland a storm across and the boat was almost wrecked. This occurred half way in the narrow channel between island and the mainland. The saint releasing his danger sprang from the bot and landed on a stone on his hands and feet. The imprint of his hands and feet are still visible on the stone which is convenient to the spring-board which has been exacted at that point. The place where the town of Skerries now stands is called "the home of Patrick" or Holm Patrick which means Patrick's farm. The graveyard is also callled HolmPatrick cemetery.
