    Local marriages take place more frequently during Shrove
    May is considered an unlucky month for marriage
    Matches are occasionally made in this district still.
    Money is given as dowry. Occasionally stock is given or stock is sold and this proceeds given as dowry.
    In olden times marriages took place at the residence of the bridal pair between sunrise and sunset
    Customs The bride's mother is not supposed to be present at the marriage; but some married woman is expected to be present at the ceremony.
    The best horses in the district were always procured for the "Hauling Home" and all were tested for speed from the church to the house of bridegroom
    Feasting, drinking (principally porter) pig's heads cabbage potatoes etc were the principal dishes
    Dancing to small hours of morning
