arrivals. After a time one man happened to glance at the proud girl. He noticed that she was continually shifting her position and an appearance of wonder came into her face. He drew the attention of the crowd to the girl and somebody looked down at the man's feet and saw that he wore no boots but that his feet were really cloven hoofs like a cour's hoof. Some of the people rushed out the door screaming and shouting that the devil was in the house. In a moment the house was in darkness and the man disappeared. The girl got up to go out and the woman of the house caught her by the shoulder and said "God bless you, where are you going to". At the words "God bless you", the girl turned back and knelt down and prayed and woman shook holy water on her. The girl then told them that it was the devil who had come to spirit her away and that it was the words "God bless you" which had saved her. The girl lost all her pride and from that day onwards she was a general favourite with all who knew her.
