    Fairs days in this county about fifty years ago were looked forward to by people of all classes with as much interest as an all-Ireland football final in our day. Business in cattle dealing appears to be a minor affairs on fair days. It was mostly a meeting place, for match making, organising Fenianism, and the Land League, singing and dancing, hordes of tinkers dealing in donkeys, ballad-singers who sang patriotic songs and those old ballad-singers
