  1. My great grandfather attended a hedge school which was situated in the district of Ard-More convenient to the village of Croghan in Co.Roscommon.
The teacher was a famous scholar, who came to the district and obtained work from a big farmer. After some time the people got to know of his brilliancy and they built a mud cabin for him. Then they sent their children to be educated by him. His pupils proved to very good scholars. The only payment he got was a little subscripton from the people. The ruins of this cabin are still to be seen in the bog.
