  1. There are a good many old proverbs in my district such as:-
Its a long lane that has no turn
Its an ill wind that does not blow favour to some one
    New brooms sweep clean
Where there is a will there is a way
    Charity begins at home
    Fine feathers make fine birds
His own nose will teach you
A living dog is worth a dead lion
A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush
Every dog is stiff at his own door
Every cock crows on his own dunkle
The old dog for the long road and the pup for the boreen

When poverty comes in the front door lucks goes out the window

The world would not make a racehorse out of an ass
    One black lad knows another

Fág Ceash (?) mar atá sé
Ní h-e lá na gaoithe lá na sgolba
Ní deanfadh saoghal capal rasa d'asal
An rud is anamh is ionghantach
    Is fearr obar na cainnt
