    to Maddenstown Corner and is the first portion of the Curragh that one meets in travelling from Kildare to Kilcullen by the French Furze road. Half a century ago the Fair generally lasted three and even four days and the supply of horses was so great that the fair extended to the Gibbet Rath. There was a ready market for every type of horse especially good class Hunters. Cattle and Sheep were also sold but it is as a Horse Fair that French Furze Fair has become famous.
