1. Clothes must not be washed on that day.
2. Milk should not be given away for free on that day.
3. It is an old saying in this district that if a person falls sick on Good Friday he will not recover. - Shrove.
1. Shrovetide begins on St. Stephen's Day and ends on Shrove Tuesday. This is a great time for matchmaking and marriages in country districts.
2. Pancakes are made for tea on Shrove Tuesday night. - St. Bridgid's Day.
It is a custom to put a white cloth on a tree on that night. - 1.
Everyone that can afford it has a "November barm-brack" for supper. Games are played with apples and nuts. A tub of water is placed in the middle of the floor. Some apples are put in(continues on next page)
