    There were two public houses in Spittle, and after the fair, 'twas at Spittle the Barryroe people used end their faction fighting. There was no public house closing then, and Fr. Ned used come down with a big stick - a faich of a spade - to send the people home. One time he was sending a crowd home - they were down by the Bandon bridge and one of the Reens over was in the crowd. Don't know whether Fr. Ned hit Reen, but the latter had some spite to him as he was put off the church gate for not paying
