    When Mac Carthy thought he was beaten by Cromwell, he had in his possession a casket of jewels and gold, and not wishing to let Cromwell's soldiers capture this valuable treasure he carried it through an underground tunnel which leads from the Castle to the lake and threw the casket of valuables into the lake, thinking that when the war was over he could recover them again. But when he tried to get up this hidden treasure from its watery bed, he failed to do so. At that time there was an enchanted horse in the county, and Mac Carthy had great hopes of succeeding with the aid of this
