  1. Old Schools.
    About one-hundred and fifty years ago the Irish people could not practice their religion. Catholic Schools were done away with, and boys or girls could not go to school except to a Protestant school. Priests were killed in great numbers and Churches and houses were burned to the ground.
    Just a few miles to the South of Charleville at that time lived a young man named Harry Burke. He was a very good scholar. He had compassion on the little children who could not even bless themselves. He therefore made up his mind to try and teach them something.
