    It was an evening in the close of the eighteenth century. The crimson sun sank slowly, carefully as it were over the dreaded Luachra hils. What terror such sunsets brought each evening to the inhabitants of the peaceful little valley of "Barnagh", nestling in among the hills the only gap or opening in the great range.
