  1. There was an old hedge school in Newtown (about a mile outside Drangan), taught by Mrs Kenny. A cousin of mine Anastasia Noonan attended there in 1830.
    There was a hedge school in Kylenagrana. The teachers name was O'Dwyer. This man was either a father or an uncle of the "Wayside Shepherd" mentioned in C. J. Kickham's "St. John's Eve"
    There was an old thatched school near the bridge on John Leahy's farm in Priestown. The teacher's name was William Quirke He taught there over a hundred years ago.
