    Local Marriage Customs
Usually marriages take place about Shrove - tide
Old people say that Friday is a very unlucky day for marriage
Money is usually given for dowry and sometimes farm stock.
When the married couple go on their honeymoon Bandbeggars visit the house.
They wear straw on their heads and if they do not get as much money as they want they do harm to the house or farm stock.
I got this information from Patrick Hynes aged seventy three and who lives in Killeen.
Transcribed by a member of our volunteer transcription project.
