  1. Long ago a man lived with his wife and mother in the country.
    His wife was very lazy and would not do a thing from morning to night, she would not even wash the man's shirt.
    "One day the mother said to him get a tub of water and pretend you are washing then she cannot but be ashamed. The man turned up his sleeves making out he was washing. When his wife came in she asked him what he was doing. I am washing my shirt he says. "O wait a minute" says she handing him one of her own garments "you may as well give this a rinse when you are at it.
