  1. About the year 1924 the rock of Carrigbyrne was accidently set on fire and burned for twenty-two days
Some young men were enjoying themselves on the highest peak of the rock when one of them threw a lighting match after lighting a cigarette and some bushes caught fire. They tried in vain to extinguish it but it spread rapidly, and they, knowing that they could do nothing, ran away, and the fire kept lighting until the whole rock, including a wood, was burned and then it went out itself.
