  1. The marriage customs of long ago were not the same as the marriage customs now. The neighbours used to make the matches on fair days in Public Houses. When the married couple would take their breakfast they would go away for a long drive. When they would come back they would have a dance and a wedding and all their neighbours and their friends would be invited. At night the strawboys would come and they would have straw hats pulled down on their faces so that the people of the house would not know them. The week before easter used to be a great time for getting married long ago.
